The Haven of Hope
Handicraft Centre was started in 1974 with one girl in a garage. Today
it is a place of training and employment for over 130 women and teenage
girls. We have 10 Government trained sewing teachers. The Handicraft
Centre is divided into several sections and training is given in doll
making, embroidery, cross-stitch, tailoring, cutting, patchwork, and
machine work. The girls are trained to do excellent work. 70% of these
girls come to us who do not know anything about sewing and needlework
and some do not even know how to thread a needle. After 18months of
training each person is placed in a department according to their
ability and preference. The result is that each one does the most
beautiful work, which is sold in many countries of the world. This
helps us to pay a salary each month. This enables them to live and to
feed their families. We have published catalogues of the different
items that are being produced by teenage girls and women and they are
available on request. We sponsor and educate the children of all who
are married in the Handicraft center.
