Section B
The
vision of Bethany School is to cater the
best education for the children in the slums at free of cost. Also we give special care in moulding a child to be a better citizen of the country.
Education is the only way to
eradicate poverty in the country and by educating the children in the slums we bring them a hope for the future.
When we help one child in a family
the entire family is going to be
benefited in the future. Also from our experience we learned that when we
educate a child in a family we have a wide open door to help the entire family
in many areas of their life.
Bethany School functions as
a free educational institution for children from the age of 3 to 15 that is
from the lower kindergarten to 10th standard. We started this school in
1993 with fifty children in a small room with thatched roofing. When the
parents of the children and other people in the slums saw the marvellous change in the character of the children studying
in the school, more parents came forward to admit their children in our school.
Now it has grown up into a full-fledged
educational institution with more than 1000 children studying and 38 government
trained teachers educate them.
As
the students increased in the year 2003 we were forced to rent a building
nearby to run our High School separately (classes from 6th to 10th).
This caused problems for us with the Educational department for granting
recognition for the school. Our children in the 10th standard during
this year was banned from writing the government examination but God
miraculously intervened in this matter and enabled us to obtain recognition for
the school from the Educational department and our students were permitted to
write the government examination. But they
granted us recognition for three years that is up to 2006 on the basis of a
condition. The condition is that we have to purchase and construct separate
buildings for Primary school (classes from lower kindergarten to 5th
standard) and High school (classes
from 6th to 10th standard) before June 2006. We have given a Letter of Undertaking to the
Government to this effect.
God enabled us to purchase a
land measuring one acre and we have started the construction of the buildings.
The foundation of the High School is been laid and the foundation for the
Primary school is in progress.
SECTION C
How our project will
demonstrate the characteristics of Christian Development
COMPASSION:
The
very purpose of Bethany school is to
share and show the love and compassion to the weaker section and the poorest of
the poor. This school benefits the poor and needy section in the city of
Chennai.(Madras). As this is a Free
Tamil Medium Educational institution this school will directly benefits the
poor children in the local community and in the city. Our new school have a
capacity to educate 1200 children in a
year. (From Lower kindergarten to 10th standard there are 12-classes.
Each class having 2 sections. Each section has a capacity of 50 children. Hence
the total children benefited 12 X 2 X 50 = 1200). The team of social workers in
our organization always ensures that the education is extended to the
vulnerable and the poor in the local community.
JUSTICE:
Bethany School brings
justice to
the poor and children from the weaker section by providing free quality education. They are otherwise deprived of
their right to be educated and forced to child labour.
CHARACTER
All the teachers and staff
in our school are committed person who have the desire to share the love and to
serve the poor and needy children. As the children are coming from undisciplined and
unclean backgrounds it is not an easy task for the teachers to teach them the
need of cleanliness and discipline them in their life. But it is amazing to see
the transformation that has been effected in the life of the children in our
school after coming to us. Our teachers
always ensure that they lead a witnessing life before them.
CULTURAL
SENSITIVITY AND TRANSFORMATION:
India
is a country where 80% of the population
are Hindus. Hinduism is a religion with many traditions and cultures.
Majority of the children in our school are from Hindu background and it is
essential for us to respect every culture and values of them.
But
from our experience we want to share that when we educate these children we
have an open door in their families and this enables CMCT to tell them about
the truth and love of God.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Bethany
school imparts quality education and the success
rate of 75% to 80% for the past three years in government examination by
our students coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds portraits the
impact on the weaker section. We are aiming for 100% result in the coming
years.
LEADERSHIP
Bethany School is governed
by a group of committed, qualified and enthusiastic Christians. The Board of Management
consists of 1) Educationalist 2) Legal person 3) Finance person 4) Business
person 5) Educational Officer and other committed and qualified people. More than the Board of Management, the Lord
guides Bethany School and it is His ministry.
SUSTAINABILITY
Bethany schools vision is
to bring lasting change in the community through imparting quality education and we strive to mould the children as better citizens of
the country and thus mould them as future leaders for the community and for
the country.
Separate permanent buildings
for the school ensures that the economically disadvantaged people in the
community will be always benefited in the years to come.
